Super Bowl Weekend Weather
We started Super Bowl weekend right here at KXAN today with a great lunch time party in our parking lot. Thanks Hat Creek for the awesome burgers!
There will be lots of parties going on Sunday, so many of you are likely wondering whether it will rain. The answer is: possibly. We are certainly going to see some rain through early Saturday morning. In fact, a Flash Flood Watch has been issued (see below).
After Saturday morning, computer models are not in agreement how this weekend will shape up. Behind the Saturday system another batch of moisture will lift over the cooler air, keeping us cloudy through Sunday, and possible bringing back some light rain. It appears the best chance for rain on Sunday will be during the morning, with drier air filtering in during the afternoon. It’s certainly not going to be a nice day, with overcast conditions and highs only in the low to middle 50s.
Here’s more information on our weekend weather from the National Weather Service:

A strong winter storm system over the Rockies and Southern U.S. Plains will push a cold front into South Central Texas tonight. This cold front will interact with a warm and very moist airmass over our area and produce heavy rains tonight through early Saturday morning. Rainfall totals for this evening through Saturday morning will average less than one half of an inch across the Rio Grande Plains and 1 to 1.5 inches across areas further east, including the Hill Country. A Flash Flood Watch has been issued for areas generally along and southeast of the I-35 corridor, including the Austin and San Antonio metro areas, where rainfall totals of 2 or more inches are expected. Grounds are still very wet from the heavy rains of the last storm system, so runoff will be quick to lead to localized flooding in the watch area.

A cold front pushing through South Central Texas Friday night will bring a good chance of showers and thunderstorms to the area. Some of the storms could be severe tonight. Mostly cloudy…cooler and breezy conditions are expected behind the cold front on Saturday. Some lingering showers and storms on Saturday…especially across the coastal plains. Expect an increasing chance of showers over the southeast half on Sunday with highs mostly in the 50s. Average weekend rainfall totals will range from near one 1/4 inch or less far west to near 2 inches east of the I-35 corridor.
