Ernesto makes landfall
Tropical Storm Ernesto made landfall Tuesday along the Yucatan Peninsula. It was briefly had hurricane force winds.
This is an image of Tropical Storm Ernesto about two hours after hurricane hunters confirmed hurricane force winds. The storm rapidly decreased in strength after moving inland. As of Wednesday morning there were no reports of damage in Chetumal, Mexico, the closest city to the storm.
The National Hurricane Center has Ernesto moving back over the southern Gulf and gaining strength briefly before making landfall again in Mexico Thursday morning.
The NHC is also watching two disturbances in the Atlantic for further development.
The area shaded in orange has a 30-percent chance of becoming a tropical cyclone in the next two days. It’s moving west at 10-15 mph.
