With the Beautiful Weather Comes a High Fire Danger Today

September 8th, 2012 at 10:38 am by under Weather

A fairly strong late-summer cold front pushed through central Texas in the early morning hours on Saturday.  The frontal passage lowered temperatures a bit, lowered humidities a lot, and brought gusty north winds to the area.

The cold front is great news for our afternoon high temperatures.  Camp Mabry just wrapped up 9 consecutive triple-digit days.  We can expect a high a few degrees below average today – right around 90 degrees.

A downside to the cold front, however, is the very high fire danger it brings with it.  The strong winds today will usher in very low humidities in the dry air mass – putting central Texas in a potentially dangerous fire situation.  The National Weather Service has posted a Reg Flag Warning for some of our Hill Country Counties (Llano, Burnet, Gillespie and Blanco).  Remember, even areas outside of the warning will have near-critical fire conditions today.  Be careful!

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for the Hill Country. Critical fire weather conditions are expected all over central Texas today, even outside of the warning area.
