Austin to celebrate Car Free Day

This Saturday, put away your keys and put on your walking shoes. Austin’s Car Free Day launches to help educate the city on how to ditch driving but still get around town.

Car Free Day began in 2000 that can now boast 1,500 participating cities in 40 counties. Commuters pledge to leave their cars at home for the day and instead ride a bus or train, bicycle, telework, or walk to their jobs. They can also go “car lite” by carsharing or carpooling.

Austin’s inaugural event aims to not only change residents’ habits, but also sway community leaders to support such policies.
