Feast Of SharingNovember 20th, 2012 at 7:25 am by markmonstrola under Weather
There is nothing like a delicious turkey dinner while being surrounded by family and friends. It may have snuck up on you with so much focus being on F1 weekend over the past few weeks, but the sights, smells, and tastes of Thanksgiving are right around the corner.
Unfortunately, there are so many folks that just can not afford to have a warm dinner with all of the trimmings on Turkey Day. That’s where the Hands On Volunteer Network of Central Texas and the folks of HEB come in. This year’s generous Feast Of Sharing event will feed 14,000 meals to anyone who needs a hand, and wants the joy and comfort of a true Thanksgiving dinner.
This year’s dinner will be held at the Palmer Events Center on Barton Springs Road. The doors will open at 4:00pm and dinner will go through 8:00pm. According to the Hands On Volunteer Network website volunteers are still needed for 2 different shifts. Shift one will run from 3:00pm-6:30pm and the second shift starts at 6:00pm and runs through 9:00pm. It is a great way to give back to the community and help bring some holiday cheer to those that need it most.
**Volunteers must be at least 14 years old to give their time**
A big hats off to all those who put their hands into the event, and to the folks at HEB. Across the state, this holiday season, HEB will host 27 dinners and feed upwards of 250,000 people.
