January 3rd, 2013 at 3:00 pm by under Weather

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY has been issued through noon Friday for much of West-Central Texas and the Hill Country,  including Burnet, Llano, Gillespie, Mason, Lampasas and San Saba counties in the KXAN viewing area.  Snowfall accumulation of 2-4 inches will be possible to the west of the Hill Country, but in the KXAN viewing area, snow totals are only expected to be up to 1 inch.  Some snowflakes, mixed with some cold rain and sleet will even be possible in the Austin metro area and in counties east of IH-35 Friday morning, but no accumulation is expected, as surface temperatures should remain above freezing.

A strong low pressure system will move through the area Thursday night into Friday morning, bringing snow chances to the Concho Valley and Northern Edwards Plateau. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 3 PM Thursday through 6 AM Friday. Snow accumulations will range from 2 to 4 inches west of a Sterling City, to San Angelo, to Sonora line, with 1 to 3 inches possible elsewhere. Road may become slick, especially on overpasses and bridges.
