Hot, dry weather helped fuel a brush fire near Smithville Monday. Temperatures soared to 101 degrees in the area Monday afternoon.

Gusty winds – above 25 mph at times – also helped to fan the flames, which threatened homes in the area and even prompted evacuations. Check out these satellite and radar images from the National Weather Service that captured the fire shortly after it started.
