Kaxan in WXC -2

After living on the streets when he was younger, our mascot Kaxan is quite fearless. But he wants everyone to know that a lot of his friends are really terrified of fireworks. Every New Year, hundreds of dogs and cats show up in area shelters after running away from fireworks.  Statistics indicate that 80 percent of pets are frightened by fireworks.

Here’s an important Facebook message from Austin Pets Alive:

“Fireworks are the best,” said no dog or cat ever. As you’re thinking about your New Years Eve plans, remember the fireworks we love scare the bejeezies out of pets & lead them to run! Please keep your pets indoors and safe on New Years Eve!

Clicked on the 10 ways link and it took me to a story about animals in shelters, but nothing about how to help. Our dog gets so scared she shakes during fireworks, and keeps shaking for half an hour or more after the fireworks are done, so I really want some guidance in knowing how to help her.

Thanks, Jim. I read the tips, most of which we were doing. We appreciate your thinking about our pets. We also appreciate your presenting our weather so well. Have a joyful New Year.
