While interviewing Rep. Leo Berman today on immigration, I asked him about the website set up calling for lawmakers to censure him. “I haven’t received one phone call as a result of that website,” he said. Berman went on to say that he received 700 e-mails after the confrontation he had with immigration attorney Harry Joe. “Only five of those e-mails were negative. Every other one supported me.”

Politicians, A Rally and… a Live Sonogram?
February 24th, 2009 · No Comments
Needless to say, I was a bit taken aback when I walked into the Senate press room at the Capitol and heard a woman say “oh yeah, the sonogram is being performed right over there…behind the curtain.” A sonogram being done in a cramped room with 10 cameras, numerous reporters and a conga line of politicians? Needing to see this for myself, I walked behind the barrier and saw for myself a woman lying on a bed, with gel on her belly, a doctor by her side and a proud papa beaming at the image.
The curtain didn’t end up doing much good considering the group invited the media to get as many shots of the scene as they liked.

Poll Shows Hutchison Beating Perry
February 24th, 2009 · No Comments
According to Public Policy Polling, if Gov. Perry and Sen. Hutchison were in the race today for Governor, Hutchison would leave Perry in the dust. The poll shows that likely Republican primary voters would vote 56-31 in favor of Hutchison. “Another problem for Perry is that Hutchison leads with every subgroup of the population PPP tracks by gender, race, and age,” PPP wrote on its website.

A Site Dedicated to (Censuring) Leo Berman
February 23rd, 2009 · 4 Comments
A blogger wouldn’t dream of “censoring” anybody.. but a group of them are certainly working toward the censuring of one state lawmaker. As the go-to guy for strong and, some would say, politically incorrect opinions, it looks like Rep. Leo Berman has built quite the anti-fan base.
From the looks of it, the site to censure Leo was built after a heated exchange between Berman and Harry Joe, a Chinese-American immigration lawyer. Berman told Joe to “go home” after they argued about a bill Berman sponsored that would relocate illegal immigrants to sanctuary cities. Berman did not clarify what he meant by home.
The group of bloggers didn’t stop at the site, they’ve also set up a Facebook page for people to become actively involved in the movement.
If the saying “no publicity is bad publicity” is true, then Berman should be ahead in his possible gubernatorial run.

Cornyn to Get Rid of Stanford Money
February 20th, 2009 · No Comments
Sen. John Cornyn said he’ll donate $4,000 money to charity to make up for funds he took from R. Allen Stanford. Stanford is accused of fraud and Caribbean regulators took control of a bank he owned in Antigua. Cornyn’s donation also includes retribution for a trip he took with his wife to Antigua on Stanford’s dime.
Stanford is a Texas-born billionaire who received knighthood in Antigua and has donated to multiple Republican campaigns (including Kay Bailey Hutchison). He’s accused of defrauding investors out of $8 billion.
Here’s a pic of him in the land where he is considered royalty:

House Parliamentarian Owes $444,000
February 19th, 2009 · No Comments
Who says those who represent the public together can’t go to court together? He may win legislative campaigns, but Rep. Trey Fischer-Martinez couldn’t help Parliamentarian Denise Davids in keeping half a million dollars. Today, a district judge ruled against David’s motion for a new trial in a case where she owes $439,000 to a company that did work on her house (she won more than that in a settlement with her insurance company for mold and water damage to her home). A company who helped fix the problem claimed they deserved some of that settlement money for unpaid work and a judge agreed with them. Because her motion was denied today, she now owes an additional $5,000.
Some interesting tidbits on this case:
-Rep. Fischer-Martinez is now Vice-Chair of the House Insurance Committee
-Rep. Ana Hernandez also works with the law firm that represented Davis

Missing in Action
February 19th, 2009 · 2 Comments
Looks like Craddick is enjoying his time out of the spotlight. With the exception of the rules vote and the first day of session, Mr. Midland has failed to make a presence on the House floor. Where are the records of this you ask? There are none. Now that ghost voting is allowed in the chamber, his colleagues have been punching him in as present (according to a few people who are in the know).

What Would the Boy Scouts Say?
February 19th, 2009 · 2 Comments
The Perry campaign website that urges citizens to take action against the stimulus package is slated to stay up a while longer as more bailouts are expected to come down the pipeline. Now that Perry has agreed to accept the stimulus money, some Democrats are calling his site hypocritical and unpatriotic. The reason: a flag on the left hand side of the screen dripping blood.
Since Perry was voted Scouting’s Distinguished Citizen in 2007 and he wrote the book “On My Honor,” stressing the importance of the Boy Scouts—I have one question: What would the Boy Scouts say?

Lon Burnam Makes the NY Times
February 19th, 2009 · 1 Comment
Rep. Lon Burnam was glowing today as he read the New York Times editorial that cites his impeachment resolution against Judge Keller (the judge who reportedly ordered the court clerk’s office close at 5 p.m., preventing a death-row inmate from filing an emergency appeal before he was executed). His resolution is quoted as accusing Keller of “a willful disregard for human life.”

Cornyn Votes Cornyn Best Senator!
February 18th, 2009 · No Comments
Just kidding, but close to it. Apparently, the Senate has created a Youtube channel and the first recipient of Senator of the week is none other than our own John Cornyn. Not to allow any press opportunity pass by, Cornyn immediately posted a video to his site–just to let you know how much he cares.
