Upper Chamber Art Collection

Since the Senate and House still aren’t doing much one month into this session, I had a chance to take a look around the upper chamber today. I noticed the walls are lined with an interesting assortment of paintings. One of the biggest portraits is of confederate soldier Alfred Sidney Johnston. Almost directly across from him in a much smaller frame is a picture of Barbara Jordan. Since the Senators weren’t doing anything, I talked with Sen. Whitmire about the decorations.”I’m surprised no one has made a fuss about this yet,” he told me.

I had a good chuckle a few weeks back when Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday and Confederate Heroes Day fell on the same day.
