Gender Discrimination?

I checked out the link on Elise’s blog to the Houston Chronicle’s list of pay for government employees and found some figures pretty interesting.

For the Governor’s office, the female press secretary makes significantly less than the male director of communications and the deputy director of communications for the Lt. Governor. Hats off to those guys for bringing in good salaries, but it makes me wonder what the justification is in the discrepency of pay? From my experience, the Governor’s press secretary is a highly capable and intelligent communications director with a good resume to boot.

From a few conversations, however, I’m gathering these aren’t the gross incomes of the employees. Some do side work and get paid with campaign money. Also, these figures are from 2008, so it doesn’t take into account promotions that may have taken place in the last few months. It’s still interesting to check out.
