Former Longhorn baseball players Keith Moreland and Kirk Dressendorfer have been voted into the College Baseball Hall of Fame in Lubbock. Moreland played at Texas from 1973-75 where he was a 3 time first team All American and a member of UT’s 1975 national championship team. Moreland went on to play 12 years in the major leagues where he was part of the Philadelphia Phillies 1980 world series winning team.
Dressendorfer pitched at Texas from 1988-90 where he won 45 games as was a three time first team All American. Dressendorfer led Texas to a 2nd place finish in the 1989 college world series. He was a first round draft pick by the Oakland A’s in 1990. Dressendorfer made seven starts for the A’s in 1992 before arm problems cut his career short.
The two will in inducted on July 4th in Lubbock.

Win or lose for the Longhorns we would be on our way home Sunday, but instead of making plans for Boston, we close the book on another UT basketball season.
Maybe it wasn’t a surprise that Texas fought their way back from a ten point Duke lead, but the way they did it was not expected. Rick Barnes decided to spread the floor and let Varez Ward do his thing. The Horns never had the lead and Duke moves on to face Villanova and in the sweet sixteen.
Ward finished with a career high 16 points while A.J. Abrams led the way with 17. Abrams closes his Texas career as the schools 3rd all time leading scorer.
Rick Barnes said after the game that both Damion James and Dexter Pittman may have a decision to make about returning to Texas for a senior year or jumping into the NBA draft. James said that right now he’s not thinking about that and this loss will probably linger for a few days.
So an up and down season for the Horns ends with an exciting, yet no doubt disappointing finish as they close the book 23-12 in 2008-09.
If the UT incoming freshman class is as good as advertised with Jordan Hamilton (Los Angeles), Avery Bradley (Las Vegas) and Shawn Williams (Duncanville) they should jump right back into top ten caliber combined with who is coming back.
Horns will be back here in Greensboro in two years when they take on North Carolina in part of not a home and home, but state and state two game series. The first game will be December 19th at the Cowboys new stadium in Arlington.

Quite a scene inside the Greensboro Coliseum as Texas took the floor to th roar of about 19,000 fans. Most of the 19,000 wear wearing Tar Heel blue and flashing the “Hook Em”. Texas is taking Duke and Carolina fans have no trouble adopting the Longhorns for a couple of hours. I even saw a Carolina fan put on a burnt orange shirt.
Duke does have its share of fans if Tar Heel fans decide to head home, this will be a very pro Duke crowd with a small UT section. But at least for a while it could be very interesting.
Maybe this is payback for Texas. Last year they were booed throughout their two games in Little Rock, Arkansas. Arkansas wasn’t even playing there, it was just that Razorback distaste for the Horns.
By the way, Carolina did beat LSU to advance to the sweet sixteen in Memphis.

It is a quite a spectcle inside the Greensboro Coliseum. North Carolina leads LSU 38-29 at the half of their 2nd round game. The arena holds more than 23,000 and probably 19,000 of those fans are wearing Carolina blue.
This could make for a very interesting Texas-Duke game. While Duke fans will certainly out number Texas fans, if Carolina fans jump on the UT band wagon, it could be quite an atmosphere.
Mack Brown is here and saw him giving his old school Carolina a very polite cheer as they opened a 10 point lead.

The number one ranked Longhorn baseball lost at Kansas on saturday 4-3. It was their second straight one run loss to the Jayhawks and third straight loss overall. Sophomore Kevin Keyes gave Texas a 3-1 lead in the top of the 6th inning with a three run home run, but the Horns gave up two runs in the bottom of the 6th and the go ahead run in the 7th. Brandon Belt flew out to left field with runners on 2nd and 3rd to end the game.
Texas falls to 2-3 in Big 12 play and 14-4 over. Since their 11-0 start Texas is 3-4. The two teams will close out their three game series Sunday afternoon in Lawrence.

they will blog about it…
Roger and I have a question. We need to know the fastest route to Austin from Atlanta. The North Route which takes you down IH20 cutting down thru Tyler and the back roads (which Rick Barnes says is the fastest) or the South route, driving IH85 to IH12 bypassing New Orleans and then taking IH 10 to Hwy. 71 to Austin (this is the route we took to Greensboro at the suggestion of Texas Longhorn Color Analyst Keith Moreland).
Any thoughts?

Okay, so March Madness is awesome and my favorite time of the year….with the exception of the College World Series when Texas is playing…and while most of you think I get the good seats…let me show you where exactly I get to watch the games. I’m not going to lie, I do sneak out past securtity and get onto the floor or in the stands occasionaly…okay, so maybe the entire game, but here’s a look at our work space. My good luck charm for this trip is a “TEXAS SWIMMING” t-shirt for the Women who are competing at the NCAA’s this week and doing very well and next week for the Men who can hopefully bring home a National Championship.

Trust me, a lot of decisions go into game day. None more important than how you look and for Rick Barnes, arguably one of the best dressed coaches in the country, the tie decision seems to be the easiest. I mean you wonder about zone and man to man and protecting the paint..but few decisions seem to be easier for Rick than his tie selection.

The Texas women lost their first round NCAA game 71-63 to Mississippi State on Saturday in Columbus, Ohio. The 6th seeded Longhorns fought back from a double figure deficit in the 2nd half to tie the score at 59-59, but were outscored 12-4 in the final 1:50. This snaps a five game win streak in the first round of the tournament for Texas since 2001.
Senior Earnesia Williams Texas with 17 points in what is her last game as a Longhorn, junior Brittainey Raven scored 15. Texas finishes the season with a record of 21-12.
